Taoiseach accused of 'untruths' about Stardust tragedy printable version
06 Mar 2014 filed by editor - General Gerry Adams has been asked to question the Taoiseach in the Dail as to why the senior Council in the Stardust blaze case found a prima facie case but the government has failed to hold a further inquiry.
Families of the blaze victims and their solicitor say they confirm Deputy Richard Boy Barrett was correct when he marked the card of the Taoiseach in the Dail on Tuesday 4 March as the Taoiseach claimed he had not received a report from the families' solicitor when he had.
"We now demand our inquiry and would remind the public we still await a reply from the government over the states refusal to pay €192,000 as agreed for the experts who attended and prepared for the Coffey review. The government want us to crawl and beg on our knees, this is the regular treatment towards us from this government.
"It appears the Taoiseach is in no rush but our two issues are urgent. We further want the Taoiseach to apologize for labelling us as the Stardust families. The word Stardust makes our skin crawl and some parents pick away at their skin when they hear the word. These parents lost their children, the question is who would want to be tagged with the name stardust when it causes such great distress and anguish. Bridget McDermott who lost three children spent another sleepless night vomiting, this is the effect the word Stardust has on her. Pat Kennedy who asked Mr Gilmore the Tanaiste what would he do if his child was denied the truth , he replied I would do the same as you demand a correction to the public record," said a spokesperson for the families.
Antionette Keegan told the media on Tuesday evening's radio show on Dublin City 103.20 FM that her mother has started to scratch and pick at her skin developing psoriasis, as she sat and watched the live Dail debates. "The sick reality is we not asking for much just our rights and if the Taoiseach wants to hurt us he, is doing a good job as he keeps on distancing himself from us by being untrustworthy and telling unfounded untruths."We want our inquiry that the Senior council Paul Coffey stated we presented a Prima Facie case, the Taoiseach allowed that if the GSOC Omnibus Senior council found a Prime Facie case there would be an inquiry. We are left out of the Taoiseach's thoughts as it is the same line of thinking. We ate very hurt and we want the truth please."
Solicitor for the families, Paul O'Sullivan has written to Mr Adams appraising him of the facts relating to the matter.
